Low Budget High Content Movies from Bollywood
Bollywood, the big film industry that churns out a whole lot of movies year after year, has an array of interesting ones along with the big starrers, high budget and action packed ones, that simply put up a show for sheer entertainment of the masses. You do have storylines and songs, some good and some not so good acting, thrills and fights, emotion sequences and other masala ingredients, all put together in a slickly packaged pot boiler, whose sole aim is to get collections that would put it in the high earning bracket of 100 crores plus. The idea is to have all that is shown, in the mega scale so that the viewer is treated to visuals that make him feel that the time and money spent have been compensated more than sufficiently.
But there also come a few that have a theme that is gripping for the way it is put before you, enacted out by actors who have a flair for true-to-life drama and given the right touch by a talented director who has his sense of style in presenting it differently. Such are the movies that from start to end, that have a pace or flow, a message explicit or subtle that plays out in the mind, scenes and sequences, dialogues and haunting expressions that remain with you much after the movie and days later still.
The list of five movies, of 2016, and shortly to be released, are the ones of the latter type that have something to convey, are full of the human element, portrayed brilliantly by a well-chosen and deliberated cast and neatly crafted into a storyline by an inspired director.
These are the Low budget and High content movies that get the applause from an appreciative audience, are going to be debated for their virtues and shortcomings and enjoyed for the excellent display that is surely to be put up, true to expectations.
Traffic

A remake of an old Malayalam movie of 2011, with the central idea borrowed from a real-life event that occurred in Chennai, it is directed by Late Rajesh Pillai. Traffic is the gripping story of a whole lot of happenings at a traffic signal that not only brings the distraught individuals in the drama recounting the unpleasant tragedies or turn of events in their own lives, but also strikes a chord and forges a common bond, that has a sole aim to save the life of an accident victim before them. A talented cast of Manoj Bajpayee, Divya Dutta, Jimmy Shergill, Parambrata Chatterjee, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Sachin Khedekar, Amol Parashar, Kittu Gidwani and Vikram Gokhale have with their stellar performances, struck the right emotional chords that would surely get you involved from start to finish and live the events as they unfold.
A movie that just cannot be missed!
Te3n
Pronounced Teen or Three in English, it has Amitabh Bachchan, Vidya Balan and Nawaz Siddiqui as the main protagonists – an indication of how interesting it could be, given these talented actors.
John Biswas (Amitabh Bachchan) loses his granddaughter in a kidnapping incident 8 years ago. Stil hoping for justice, he visits the police station daily, only to be ridiculed and not taken seriously. His only confidant and helper is Father Martin (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who is an ex-cop turned priest. He too has felt the anguish of Angela’s loss. A second kidnapping takes place in exactly the same way. John pursues relentlessly now to catch the kidnapper/s. Vidya Balan, as the cop Sarita Sarkar, adds the right touch of intensity to the plot.
Out and out a crime thriller Te3n lends a thrill, suspense and the emotions of a distraught father, a sympathizing churchman, and a helpful policewoman in the right proportion to have you also seeking justice with them.
Definitely a must – watch for the excellently directed plot by Ribhu Dasgupta and the way the movie grips from start to end because of the trio.

Dhanak
meaning ‘Rainbow’ is a lovely endearing story of Chotu and Pari, set in the dunes of picturesque Rajasthan. Directed by the ‘Hyderabad Blues’ director Nagesh Kukunoor, the film is about the 8 year old brother Chotu and his elder sister Pari who is just 10, embarking upon a journey of hope, that the blind Chotu would be able to see within the next one year, through the kindly and timely help of Shah Rukh Khan. The magical experience of the journey to a location 300 Km away is what makes up the film and is given the right touches by the director with a host of colourful characters to get the audience engrossed and accompanying the duo in spirit if not physically to see them through. What is more interesting is the ending but not without the strong message that “Hope is that magic potion that works wonders in facing any adversity that might come one’s way, if the desire to achieve something is strong”.
See it with the child in you awakened.

Madaari
A thriller from director Nishikant Kamat, Madaari is filmed on the flyover or under-construction metro bridge in Andheri Mumbai that had come crashing in September 2012, that prompts a vigilante (Irrfan Khan) to seek non-legal redress because of the trauma he faces because of it. The repercussions or human emotions following the tragedy are outlined in a fictional take-off after the event. Starring Irrfan Khan, Jimmy Shergill, Tushar Dalvi and others, it has music by Vishal Bharadwaj. Brilliant performances by the main lead and centered around a kidnapping, the thrill starts right at the beginning and carries right through the film.
You should not miss this.

Sarbjit
The trailer of Omung Kumar’s second film Sarbjit was released today. The film which is a biopic, is on the life of Sarbjit Singh, an Indian farmer from Punjab who was convicted by a Pakistan court on the grounds of terrorism and his sister Dalbir Kaur who fought for his justice.
The film stars Randeep Hooda as Sarbjit, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as his sister Dalbir Kaur and Richa Chadda as Sukhpreet Kaur, his wife. Taking off with Dalbir and her family in their happier times and in flashes a bruised Randeep Hooda being beaten up in jail, the trailer sets a soul stirring mood from start.
Sarbjit is a sister’s fight to get justice for her brother despite the futility of the task at hand looming large.
The film is due for release on 20th May, 2016 and promises to be interesting for the way the film has been shot and a good performance by Aishwarya in particular.
