Priyanka Chopra kick started her professional career by winning the Miss World Title in 2000. She joined Bollywood soon after in 2002. Her big break came with Aitraaz in 2004, where she proved her worth in acting with splendid histrionics. After that she never looked back.

She established herself as an actress of repute who could carry a film on her shoulders alone. With every film she went on from strength to strength, choosing to play a whole lot of unconventional characters that she portrayed very convincingly. Kaminey (2009), What’s Your Rashee (2009), 7 Khoon Maaf (2011), Barfi (2012), Mary Kom (2014), Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) and Bajirao Mastaani (2015) were all different and brought Priyanka Chopra laurels for the intensity and devoted portrayals of her characters.

Her career achievements

Winning the title of Miss World in 2000, her very successful career was due to being a ‘self-made’ focused woman. She entered the industry from outside, had no backing, rose on her deserved merit and reached where she is now. Apart from her beauty she also has talent in immense measure, which got her an enviable position of becoming the highest paid actress in Bollywood in no time. She has received besides the numerous awards and nominations, a National Film Award, 5 Filmfare Awards, and very recently the Padma Shri (4th highest civilian award from the Government of India).

Her support is active for various causes such as environment, health and education, women empowerment and women's rights, and she is particularly vocal about women's issues, including safety, gender equality, and gender pay inequality.

Her early life

Miss India, Priyanka Chopra, who became the newlyPriyanka Chopra was born on July 18th, 1982, in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, to Ashok and Madhu Chopra, physicians in the Indian Army. Due to her parents’ occupations, the family was mostly on the move and she saw Delhi, Chandigarh, Ambala, Ladakh, Lucknow, Bareilly, and Pune in course of time. Among the schools she attended were La Martiniere Girls' School in Lucknow and St. Maria Goretti College in Bareilly. Priyanka believes that maybe due to her continuous travel to multi-cultural places has given her new insights and understanding in life that has made her able to adjust and adapt easily to new circumstances and situations. Fond memories of Leh and Jammu and Kashmir as a child, she enjoyed the stay there.

At 13 she was packed off to her aunt’s in USA, and since they also were moving most of the time, she studied at Newton, Massachusetts, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and then Queens, New York. In Massachusetts she participated in several theatre productions and studied Western classical music, choral singing and Kathak dance, but also faced racial issues for being an Indian.  Three years later she was back to India, finishing her high school education at the Army Public School in Bareilly.

She won a beauty contest there. This gave her confidence and her mother made her enter the Femina Miss India contest of 2000. She finished second, winning the Femina Miss India World title. Chopra then went on to the Miss World pageant, where she was crowned Miss World 2000 and Miss World Continental Queen of Beauty—Asia & Oceania at the Millennium Dome in London on 30 November 2000. Chopra was the fifth Indian contestant to win Miss World, and the fourth to do so in seven years.

Family ties

There has always been good bonding Priyanka-Chopra-with-her-familybetween Priyanka and her brother and her parents. Unfortunately she lost her father, whom she was very close with, in June 2013.  Although Priyanka Chopra initially aspired to study engineering or psychiatry, she accepted offers to join the Indian film industry. Her mother, a well-established gynaecologist in Bareilly, gave up her practice to support Chopra as she embarked upon a film career.

To actually pen down her life in detail till date is beyond reasonable scope for the simple reason that the read would be extremely exhaustive. For this very talented and gorgeous female despite all the good that God has bestowed upon her, remains a very likeable, loveable down-to-earth person who has her ambitions and strives to reach the sky but does not ever forget the people who have helped her along her way.

One can only wish her luck and be proud of her achievements as a sparkling bright young Indian woman who has charted her own course to fame and who will be an inspiration to all others after her.

If you have the will, you can have your way.
