Deepika Padukone - The lady with a will to succeed
The tallest among Bollywood heroines at 5’9” and tastefully dressed whenever in a saree, Deepika Padukone is not only blessed with extremely good looks but also a fun-loving nature as well. One who has seen many hurdles and major setbacks in the initial phase of her life, she has developed into becoming a very strong-willed and determined person, a fairly good actress in her own right and commercially achieving enormous success through becoming one of the three highest ever female gross earners at the box-office.
Having been groomed for cinema early on, it was sheer effort and discipline on her part that put the once National level badminton player and then model to the place that she deservedly occupies today.
Being a model gives an outlook and the advantage of working with all nature of designs, which she has put to good use. You have just to see the way she appears in a saree to understand what I mean.

Badminton player - model - actress
Deepika was born in Copenhagen and raised in Bangalore. Her father Prakash Padukone was a National level badminton player who also played at the international level to win a championship or two. Deepika herself being attracted to badminton since many others in the family before her were attracted to the sport, also played at the National level. Though she did well at the National level in Badminton and Basketball at state level when she was studying in school she did not relish continuing forever in sport. Her interest turned towards modeling which she was already aware of at age 8 when she did a couple of assignments.
In her tenth grade she decided to become a model. In 2004 she joined Prasad Bidapa for a full-time career and joined her aunty in Mumbai in 2005. At 21 she was a model with very many modeling assignments including the famous Kingfisher calendar in 2006. Fashion Designer Wendell Rodricks noticed her in a few assignments and recommended her for films through somebody.

Deepika & Bollywood
Though she started her filmy career with a Kannada movie opposite Upendra in ‘Aishwarya’ she was taken by Farah Khan for her Om Shanti Om in 2007. Initially she needed dubbing and lessons in acting, but Deepika was made of stern stuff and started her self-grooming through observing other caliber actors of yesteryear cinema.
She started getting paired with popular lead actors of the day and soon with film after film she kept on developing to get into a mould of her own. She had humility to learn and the eagerness to succeed that kept on giving her a successful film here, a commercial hit there.
It was a roller coaster ride with many ups and downs but Lady Luck was smiling down upon her and soon she began getting blockbusters where she was the main female protagonist and the films succeeded. She merited recognition as a bankable star.
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela in 2013 fetched her Filmfare Award for Best Actress. In 2013, Padukone had established herself as a leading actress of Hindi cinema by featuring in four of the top-grossing productions of the year. Starting as a leading lady in Cocktail, Race-2, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express, Happy New Year, Goliyon Ki Raas Leela Ram Leela, Piku, all boosted her career no end. And then came the blockbuster Baji Rao Mastani, opposite her real life husband Ranveer Singh that put her as one of the highest paid female commercial stars ever in Bollywood.
Following this huge success was Padmavat which had a lot of off-screen controversy because of the initial title, finally put her in a niche spot of her own. Today with the confidence of a supportive husband, she has been able to produce a movie like Chapaak and also acted in the title role of an acid attack survivor. Chapaak which is based on a real-life story.
In 2014, Padukone had featured opposite Rajinikanth in the Tamil film Kochadaiiyaan, a period drama that was shot using motion capture technology. She was paid Rs. 30 million (US$420,000) for two days worth of work in it.
In Homi Adajania's satire Finding Fanny, Padukone played a young widow who takes a road trip with her dysfunctional friends (played by Arjun Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia and Pankaj Kapur) in search of a woman named Fanny. The film was screened at the 19th Busan International Film Festival.
Let us see how she looks in her movies.

Padukone is the founder of the Live Love Laugh Foundation, which creates awareness on mental health in India. In a 2015 interview, Padukone spoke about her personal experience of overcoming depression, and in October that year she formed a foundation to create awareness on mental health in India and named it The Live Love Laugh Foundation.

The following year, she launched a campaign named More Than Just Sad to assist general physicians in their treatment of patients suffering from depression or anxiety. Also in 2016, the foundation teamed with Facebook and the AASRA organisation to launch multilingual tools and educational resources in Facebook's networking site to support people with suicidal tendencies.
Padukone became the brand ambassador for the NGO Indian Psychiatric Society and on her foundation's first anniversary, the two organisations collaborated to launch the video and poster campaign #DobaraPoocho dedicated to victims and survivors of depression.
