The ever-bubbly Vidya Balan and her exotic saree collection
One of the most, friendly faces of Bollywood is that of Vidya Balan. The hint of a spreading smile, sparkling eyes, add up to an amiable expression that makes her one of the most approachable persons of the film industry, even for the very young. Care-free by attitude and a friendly voice that is maintained most of the time in tone, her presence in a room is like warm sunshine. She oozes genuine friendliness.
On the healthier side by build, short in stature, she is comfortable with herself and does no such pretence of doing something about it. If it be something very few people would know about it. She is also known for her good dressing sense. Like Rekha she also has a soft corner for the Kanjeevaram saree but also dons a very different set of prints and designs that put her in a unique spot of her own.

Vidya Balan - the Actor
The Indian actress who is known for variety of portrayals in films, Vidya Balan works pre-dominantly in Hindi cinema. She is known for pioneering a change in the portrayal of women with her roles in female-led films. The effortless ease with which she has portrayed a slew of roles that have come to her, she cannot be pinned down to a type of role or cast in a mould. In fact in the current lot she is one of a few considered suitable for both commercial and experimental cinema.
For one who started as a bespectacled teenager Radhika in Hum Paanch, the TV comedy serial of 1995, she certainly has come a long way with a lot of meritorious awards under her belt. Besides several awards from different quarters, she has a National Film Award, 6 Filmfare Awards and a Padma Shri in 2014 to her credit.
While others hesitated to do the role of the sultry siren Silk Smitha who passed away at a very young age, she did not and The Dirty Picture was hers to try out. She performed so well in the biopic that she received the National Film award for it. Tumhari Sullu, Mission Mangal and then the very recent Shakuntala Devi are films that have shone her ‘shine’.
Vidya also promotes humanitarian causes and supports the empowerment of women. She is a member of the Indian Central Board of Film Certification and hosts a radio show. She initially drew criticism for her fluctuating weight and dress sense, but was later credited in the media for her unconventionality. Vidya is married to the film producer Siddharth Roy Kapur.

Vidya Balan’s personal life
Vidya Balan is trained in Carnatic music. She has briefly studied Bharatanatyam & Kathak. Though with a deep faith in God she does not consider herself religious in the conventional sense. She practices vegetarianism. Her fluctuating weight across the years has been subject to a lot of discussion in the media.
In March 2011, Vidya endorsed World Wildlife Fund's Earth Hour campaign in India. What the media has said about Vidya Balan
People tend to get carried away by stereotypes and expect others to fall in line with the image created. Vidya Balan has a beautiful countenance and a curvy body that keeps fluctuating in weight now and then. People expected her to be the slim to zero figure heroine and when she kept signing films there were some who outright called her names and tried to shame her. She has plenty of pluck and determination to fight it out by simply smiling back and winning awards.
See some of the comments that came in her favour.
She was praised in the media for wearing saris at public events; designer Niharika Khan explains, "Vidya's beauty lies in her curves. She's comfortable in her voluptuousness, and therefore in a sari."

Verve - international magazine said of her - when they featured her as one of India’s “Young Power Women” in 2012. It wrote "In a reel world peopled by size zero-toned bodies and pretty-as-a-picture heroines, Vidya comes across as completely real and natural – a woman who has followed her own instincts and dared to live her destiny by being her own person and not morphing herself to fit into any conventional slot." Two years later, the magazine listed her as a power icon.
Economic Times - In 2018, it considered Vidya to be one of the most prominent celebrity brand ambassadors in India.
