DHARMAVARAM

Dharmavaram is 47 Km from Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is known in the region for its architecturally brilliant temples like the Sri Lakshmi Chennakeshwara Temple, renowned for its storied tower, a perennial waterspout and pillars that produce seven different musical notes when struck.

It is also acknowledged as a hub of quality silk and cotton sarees known as the Dharmavaram variety and the famous leather puppets. Usually these sarees have broad borders, adorned by brocaded gold patterns. Not following any color contrast, Dharmavaram saris comprise heavy 'pallus' with exclusive designs.Besides south-silk, you can find sarees in different materials, like cotton, tussar silk, cotton silk, etc. The variety of handlooms could range from cushion covers to bedsheets, curtains to carpets and various other fabrics. If you are keen on observing the art of weaving, you can check out the local production houses, where hundreds of weavers are engaged in intertwining colorful threads of cotton and silk to fabricate exclusive textile material.Dharmavaram is located at an average elevation of 345 metres (1131 feet) and there is a lake called Chitravati.
