• As a town Maheshwar is full of temples, supposed to be close to 100. SahastarArjun Temple near the holy river Narmada, Rajrajeshwar Mandir, Kashi Vishwanath Mandir, Chaturbhuj Narayan Mandir, Ahilya Mata's Chhatris, Chintamani Ganpati Mandir, Pandharinath Mandir, Bhawani Mata Mandir and many others are spread over the place.
• The Ek Mukhi Datta Temple is a newly constructed one in Sahastradhara, Jalkoti, Maheshwar.it is also known as Shiva Datta Dham and is constructed in an area of about 30 acres. The Temple area is restricted to 10000 sq. feet and is situated on the banks of historical Narmada River. The main attraction in this temple are the very beautiful idols of Lord Ek Mukhi Datta, Maa Narmada and Lord Ganesha.
• The well-maintained historical fort built by Rani Ahilyabai Holkar is a big draw for tourists who visit Maheshwar. Ahilya Fort is now a heritage hotel, founded by Prince Richard Holkar, a descendant of both Ahilya Bai Holkar and the last Maharajah of Indore.
• The palace of the queen also is a good place to visit to know about her way of living.
• Maheshwar has naturally developed into a hub for handlooms from the time of Rani Ahilyabai and remains a major attraction for tourists from all over who see firsthand how the excellent products that they buy are made.
• Other places close by are Dhamnod, Barwani, Sanawad, Mundi, Khargoan, Khandwa that could be visited. Maheshwar and the film industry The cultural atmosphere and peaceful scenic surroundings with a river flowing by, have led to many a film shooting or parts of it taking place in Maheshwar, Bollywood and the Tamil film industry in particular. Ashok, Tulsi by actor director Sachin, a music video by A.R.Rahman, two songs from a Tamil movie by Mani Ratnam, a song from a movie directed by Andrew Vasanth Louis, episodes from the serial Jhansi Ki Rani, certain sequences from Yamla Pagla Deewana were all shot here. In one or two cases locals had been invited to join in the shoots as general characters. Not that it has stopped at this. Many more are likely to visit also hereafter.
