TIE & DYE
Designs and patterns

Tie-dye can be used to create a wide variety of designs on fabric, from standard patterns such as the spiral, peace sign, diamond, and the marble effect to beautiful works of art. Using techniques such as stencils), clamped-on shaped blocks, and tritik (stitching and gathering), tie-dye can produce almost any design desired.

Essential difference between ikkat weaving and tie & dye

Tie & Dye differs from the ikkat way of dyeing and weaving.

In ikkat the yarn threads are first coloured according to a pre-determined pattern and then the fabric is woven so that the pattern gets woven as part of the fabric. In tie & dye the woven fabric is tied at several points by threads or other resists so that after the dyeing is done, the resist portions remain colourless. The way the resists are tied and then removed, forms the desired pattern.
