Yercaud is a small town located about 30 kms from Salem, Tamil Nadu. The hills from Salem contain about 20 hair pin bends and the journey is breath-taking. A lot of waterfalls can also be seen on the way when there is heavy rain.

The lake, the view points, Kiliyur falls and the Shevaroys temple are the major attractions. There is a Rose garden and a children’s play area. Weather is extremely pleasant, you always carry warm clothing as the hill top can get very cold during the mornings. Choose this as a 1-2 day weekend gateway from Bangalore or Chennai. If you are looking for great crowded or hyped sightseeing spots or shopping you will be disappointed. I travelled with family during the Diwali weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a just a nice little town with a great weather and a good option for a relaxing weekend.

The best thing about Yercaud, all the view points and the places to visit are all in a range of 10-15 Km radius. Two days would be enough to cover almost all the places. One can visit the Shevauroy’s temple and the view point there is said to be at the highest height in Yercaud. Then you can click few pictures at Montfort school and go to Pagoda point, then the Lady’s seat, Gent’s seat and Children’s seat are all close by, also the rose garden. Then you can come down to the botanical garden or the Anna park and by evening enjoy the Lake and then you can bid a good bye to the place and enjoy the sunset views while descending the 20km long 20 hairpin turn road.

Other places to visit in and around Salem are Arulmigi Alagirinathar Temple, Silk Farm, Paravasa Ulagam Water Theme Park, Sathya Narayana Sithar Beedam, EllaiPedari Amman Temple, The Grange, ISKCON Salem, Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda Temple.
